Penelope Cruz was born April 28, 1974 in Alcobendas, Community of Madrid, Spain. A curious fact is that her named is based on Joan Manuel Serrat's song. As a child she trained jazz dance and ballet. At Spain's National Conservatory in Madrid, Penelope spends 9 years studying classical ballet. When she was at 15, she was signed by an agent and soon she made her debut in TV film. She continue her movie career in many films such as Open Your Eyes (1997), The Girl of Your Dreams (2000), Woman on Top (2000), Waking Up in Reno (2002), Gothika (2003), the Christmas movie Noel (2004), Sahara (2005), Volver (2006), Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), G-Force (2009). She received Golden Globe for her role in Volver and Academy Award nominations. For her performance in Vicky Cristina Barcelona she became the first Spanish actress in history to receive an Academy Award.
